A stockpile of naturally-dyed fabric was the inspiration for this design. When I started playing with a hexagon tessellation, a challenge emerged to turn the repetitious, geometric design back into something organic like the materials it was going to be made from. I got a pile of leaves.

The fabric and sashiko thread get their color from an entire year of foraging and experimenting with food waste and plants around my home in Austin, TX: avocado pits and skins for the pinks, coreopsis for the oranges, black beans for the blues and greens, lichen for the dark brown, and various other wildflowers for the tans.
