Zach, 2022

80" | Made from cotton fabric and glow-in-the-dark polyester thread | Machine-pieced and quilted, hand-embroidered

This quilt was a birthday present for my partner, Zach. I gifted him the initial concept design on his birthday in 2021 and then went through a journey of design burnout, 3 other quilts, killing some darlings, and a whole new concept before finally handing his quilt to him on his birthday in 2022.

Zach’s quilt is mandalas, astronomical maps, and play. It brings together the sky over his hometown the moment he was born and the sky over my home the moment I walked outside to meet him for our first date. An embroidered French knot marks each star from those special places and times.
